Timely Degree Completion

Students at UC San Diego follow many different paths to graduation. Your major requirements, your College requirements, and your own personal interests all contribute to determining the courses you take and the length of time to degree completion.

Most students take four years to complete their degrees. Four Year Plans are available for every College and major at plans.ucsd.edu.

Some students may be able to accelerate their progress in order to finish in fewer than four years. For several of our most popular majors, Three Year Finish plans are available at plans.ucsd.edu.

If your major is not listed, we recommend that you draft your Three Year Finish Plan by looking up the Four Year Plan for your major and College and apply some of the above strategies. Be sure you make an appointment with your College academic counselor to review your plan.

In general, Timely Degree Completion Strategies include:

• Using AP/IB credit to count toward your major or College requirements
• Increasing your quarterly course load
• Using summers to take courses:
  • Check out the most common courses offered at UC San Diego in Summer Session
  • Look at what courses from other institutions give you transferrable credit: ASSIST
  • Academic Advising for current students
  • Advising Tools for current students
